Another study about kids watching a lot of television was in the news this week—a reminder of the need for quality child care. Now one of the region’s leaders of quality early learning offers tips to help manage television at home and in child care.
Child Care Resources reminds parents and teachers to limit children’s screen time to no more than one to two hours a day. And the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends no screen time for kids age two and under.
The group also recommends:
- “Watch TV with your child. (This is a big help in our house when my kids get to watch television. It helps to break the tube’s zombie effect.)
- “Remove television sets from children’s bedrooms.”
- “Turn off the television during meal times.”
- “Set an example with your own behavior.”
- “Use videos and recordings to guide the quality of programming viewed and avoid commercials.”
